Best tattoist

The art of tattooing is broad, eye-catching and very popular today. Certainly, is something that will remain in our body for life. And for this reason, it is critical to choose the right tattooist who will use our canvas skin, to be satisfied with the result and have no regrets in the future. With the guidance of a great tattoo artist: Pulpo, we will list 6 fundamental keys to make a wise choice. Don’t forget to be aware of them before tattooing.

Following the steps to pick the best tattooist:

1. Check his/her Instagram or portfolio. Social Media and Websites are the galleries of their work and style; you need to read the comments and find out if they are a skilled tattooist. Pulpo wisely remarks something about the social networks and its display: ¨ Unfortunately nowadays, the image of the tattooist has sometimes been misrepresented by realities and matters outside the tattoo itself, has become a stance where someone buys a machine without knowledge, create an Instagram, makes two or three bad tattoos and he/she is already considered a respectable artist … becoming popular just for the number of followers, who do not necessarily reflect the real talent¨ Therefore, it is more important the customer’s comments than circumstantial followers.

2. Price is not synonymous of good quality. It is true that each artist quotes his work as he/she considers it, but as in every profession, there are some who earn a lot for a work that is not at the height of talented artists who charge the same or less for the same work. However, Pulpo also sets a view ¨I believe that a good tattoo must be paid, if it is expensive and you can’t afford it is better to wait to have the money understanding that it is something for life, being completely sure that the tattoo will be made by a trained artist instead of taking a decision only because is cheaper and you end up with a draw that you hate¨.

3. Visit the studio. It will be more visible his/her works, furthermore, you could check the sanitary precautions which are essential. Dare to ask about his/her trajectory ¨Are some mainstay that must be deeply learned in order to have a self-growth. In the world of tattooing, you have to know about machines, pigments, lining, shadows, colors … having basis for later developing a professional career. I believe that no one should never take itself for granted and every day more training is required. What it takes more than one or two years¨ Pulpo explains.

4. Speak with the artist. Explain your expectations and listen to his/her suggestions regarding colors, size, and position. An expert can give the most accurate advice and be able to understand a client. If you feel there is a connection and you are convinced by the reasons, you are right in front of YOUR tattooist.

5. Find someone who is an expert in the style you’re looking for. Like Art indeed, there are different styles and it takes years to specialize in each, so every professional has proficiency just in one or a few styles. According to Pulpo, it is not possible to be a master in all of them. The realism of faces is the most difficult since a line that thinly stretched in an eye or nose, changes according to the person, either in color or black and grey. ¨Tattoos, like every Art expression, is a language and in spite of you might be able to represent many styles with respect and quality, reach a point of make yours a style takes uncountable years¨

6. Learn how to find out when someone is not good. The clue is on how the piece looks after healing, that is something that a tattooist must know, mainly in Black and grey and color styles. You can approach other clients and ask them about the results. Another crucial point is to check out if he is a real drawer. Pulpo points out ¨In my opinion, someone fails when he/she does not know how to draw beforehand. Read “Know how to draw” when he/she can craft an image functionally¨

To summarize, we quote again the wise words of Pulpo who guided us in these 6 keys: ¨The best tattooist knows how to read what the client wants when it comes to pieces involving a previous design. In addition to the knowledge of the style that the client brings forward¨

Musician and passionate drawer nearly from the cradle. Pulpo has developed himself in the art of tattooing for several years. We appreciate his teachings to learn how to choose the best tattooist, also the art that he offers us day by day.  IG: @pulpotattoovalentinalsina

The mission

If there’s a Gothic rock band with a prestigious career: is The Mission. Celebrating their anniversary tour, the English band performed last Saturday the 26th of May at the Vorterix theater in Buenos Aires. Ten years after their last concert in Argentina, some ex-members of The Sister of Mercy returns to Buenos Aires to make their fans thrill.

The lead-singer Wayne Hussey with the original members: Craig Adams and Simon Hinkler went on stage at 9.30 pm, just after the Intro “Dambusters” began with “Beyond the Pale”; followed by the gem “Hands across the Ocean” from their album “Carved in Sand” and the boogie song “Serpent kiss”.

The band shone strong but warm though. Wayne was constantly interacting with the audience while he drank his bottle of wine. People clapped and danced along with the music: Guys and girls in black leather clothes, platforms shoes, and outrageous make-up. Definitely, the Gothic spirit was felt within those walls.

It was a special night for the frontman, “Today is my birthday” he said to the public and the crowd began to sing the happy birthday´s song.  “Now we’re going to play a song I wrote a long time ago,” he stated, and the chords of “Garden of delight” started playing.

One by one the song went out throughout the whole evening.  The classic and catchy “Severina” hit the fans. Then came “Butterfly on a wheel” “The Grip of disease” and “Wake” among others.

Simon let go his solos that unfortunately were not always well appreciated due to a very low sound of his guitar. The joy of the band was evident: “Buenos Aires I love your city, your people” shouted Wayne. Then “Deliverance” was played and the audience sang along with a capella when the microphone was offered to the audience.

Seemed the end of the show, the musicians suddenly disappeared, but a few minutes later Wayne resurfaced only with his guitar asking the technical crew to diminish the lights: “Are you all right? Do you want us to again?” And he heartily began to sing “Like a child again”.

Finally, the night ended up with great songs like “Blood Brothers” and “Tower of Strength” that triggered a standing ovation. The nostalgia of the 80’s was finally appeased, thankfully to the great musical repertoire of this British band: The Mission, during a cold night in a full theater.

COLETTE REVIEW

Review: Colette

Keira Knightley, the famous movie star of historical and biopic films, once again wears these costumes for plays this time Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. The French ghostwriter, famous for her sagas of novels “Claudine” during the late XIX and early´s XX.

The fluid storyline portrayed by director Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice) describes how Colette turns from being an innocent country girl, who is caught up in the almost romantic subjugation of her husband.  Becoming a liberal and powerful woman, who shatters many of the patriarchy’s schemes,  eventually reaching the economic and artistic independence; freeing herself to a sexual fulfillment from her bisexuality. A woman who with her presence and novels influenced whole Paris (we could say a genuine and real influencer) and becoming a feminist pioneer.

As we are used to, Keira’s performance is flawless; versatile from the subtle gestures according to Colette’s younger personality, to the strength and vigor that she had as an adult when she finally got divorced from her husband (Willy) facing her life in complete self-sufficiency. An extra bonus to Dominic West with his remarkable and eccentric performance, also, to a seamless and well-written script. Furthermore,  the brilliant directing and the cinematography. A very up-to-date film.

My score from 0 to 5 clauditas is: 3.5 clauditas!

My prerogative

I worked in an independent movie channel, programming movies for 6 years. Most of my colleagues had never filmed a movie before, but even so, they believed they were the owners of the filmmaking truth: pure snobbishness which I always hated. Is cinema art or entertainment? It will always be a discussion, whereas I say both, for a vast majority it is just entertainment. That’s why each film has a purpose, and with this review, I simply hope that it works as an impulse to curiosity. Finally, you will decide if you want to watch the film or not. Ultimately… Who am I to determine choices or evaluate the filmmakers’ work? I’m just saying… I know that I know nothing. The ANTI-CRITIC

The magnificent bluesman: Lurrie Bell

On Wednesday 22 August, with a hot weather not wintry at all, Mr. Lurrie Bell conquered the stage of “La Trastienda”. This outstanding blues guitarist, Chicago-born Chicago, and son of the harmonica legend: Carey Bell showed up on the stage at around 9.15 pm along with “Argentinean Blues Band”.

Creating a sensual and fun atmosphere Lurrie Bell presented his album “The Devil ain´t got no music”, where he mixes blues and gospel. He also played his well-known songs and shared the stage with “Alambre Gonzalez”, one of the most prestigious guitarists from the Argentinean rock scene. Afterward, while the band perfectly accompanied, Lurrie thrilled his fans with many guitar solos, uner the pentatonic scale, on his magnificent red Gibson 335.

Audience attentively listened, until all of sudden stood up and jump euphorically cheering for that bluesman, who is a more than a musician: is a living Master.

“The Devil Ain’t Got No Music” is not a pure gospel record nor is it a pure blues. It is a musical journey where both genres fit together. From the uplifting Swing Low that opens the set to the yearning Peace in the Valley to Bell’s meditative solo take on the classic Reverend Gary Davis song Death Don’t Have No Mercy, this new release plays out like many of the greatest blues recordings, showing all the emotions that life conjures. And also like the best pieces, real stories about real life behind.

Being a good barista isn’t easy. To be one of the best and most recognized baristas in New Zealand and around the world is even harder. We interviewed Gabe “Fantailbarista” who displays his art in Auckland and celebrities like Lorde and the All blacks gladly accept his Art in a cup of coffee. Here are his tips for becoming one of the best baristas

-How did you start your career as a barista?

To be honest, it was an accident. I was working in a restaurant and one day the owner asked me if I knew how to make coffee, I said no, but he pushed me to do it. Since that moment, I never stopped making coffees and that is how my career as a barista took off.

-What was the hardest thing you had to face at the beginning? and whats still a challenge for you?

I think everything was difficult at the beginning. Here in New Zealand coffee is more than just a filter and hot water. Gradually I began to understand how important are the steam, the milk, and coffee shots indeed. For me, every day is a challenge, because I always make Latte Art. I always look for inspiration in those talented professionals from all over the world on Social Networks, and when I see some photos or videos that inspire myself I encourage to create my own ideas and new techniques.

-When did you find out that you had become good at what you were doing?

When regular customers started telling me how good my coffees were. That’s the most important complement that motivates me to keep on perfecting myself.

-Could you tell us step by step how to make a good coffee?

First, you must have a precise knowledge of the beans you are using and how many grams you need when you grind them. Then calculate between 23 and 30 seconds for the espresso shot to be ready. And last but not least, heat the milk perfectly.

-What are the basics of selecting the right coffee beans and preparing properly the milk?

My next step will be to learn more about the production and the roster of coffee beans. So, I would rather not give a definite answer yet.

Regarding the milk, when you learn the technique, finally you understand that you should not burn the milk as it changes the taste of the coffee. if its temperature exceeds 70 C this will happen, and after 80 C milk basically boils. The perfect milk should be creamy, consistent, and without bubbles, therefore, the ideal temperature for a Cappuccino or Latte is between 60 and 70 C

-Which coffee is the most required by your clients and according to your criteria what differentiates it from others?

It depends on each person. Sometimes it can be just a black coffee: long black or Americano. Either coffee with milk: Can be a Latte in a glass or a flat white in a cup. Basically, the difference is a Latte has more foam than a flat white.

-What would you advise those who wish to become baristas?

First, you have to learn to drink coffee, it is very important to understand what a good cup of coffee is like. It’s something that not everyone can appreciate and when you really get to know that taste you’re on the road.

-Any new goals or dreams in mind?

Have my own Café and keep people smiling with my Art

Thanks so much, Gabe IG @fantailbarista for this interview

-Céu: You are launching your third studio album “Caravana Sereia Bloom”. How was the creative process? What makes it different from the previous ones?
To me, it’s very different to record an album starting with an original idea, which in this particular case was on the road. Everything was done around this concept: the music, the lyrics, and the inspiration. In the end, it turned out to be the same concept as the album itself. I would also say this album is an ongoing career, a history in progress after the first and second ones.

-There are many musicians who remain devoted to one or two musical styles, but you mix a great variety of styles and sounds. How did this choice come about?
That seems quite natural to me because I’m Brazilian. Here we are totally mixed, I don’t know where my indigenous, African and European roots lie.

-What do you remember about your first visit to Argentina and how do you plan this new event in Niceto Club?
I remember the tasty food, the fleshy wines and, the jacket I bought there and use it every day Lol. I’m excited to be back and I’m planning a performance for the audience to have fun.

-How do you see the worldwide projection of Brazilian musicians?
I see it with great joy and huge admiration for our performers.

-If you had to say what was your greatest personal achievement. What would you say? and what do you need to accomplish yet?
Surely my daughter. However, there are still a lot of things to be done… still.

 8. MY ANGEL

“I don´t want to live that way” coreábamos y headbangueabamos conformes con el espectáculo brindado.
